At first glance No More Heroes It may seem like a regular game with a stylization for retro-in 2007, when it came out, there were not very many such projects, but now we live at a time when only the most lazy indie-developer did not do something pseudo-free (see., For example, magnificent Vvvvvv ). Therefore, the sequel No more Heroes, a new game from the famous SUDA51 (about which is our separate note), it seems just a tribute to fashion, in addition, it is also quite silly. In Desperate Struggle, a young man in the hidden jeans and a hairstyle in the form of a parrot crest kills people with light katana. But in fact, no more heroes is not about that at all.

Travis list

The young man's name is Travis Tachdown. Once he was quite an ordinary geek, but once he lowered all the money for the next gadget-that very light katana. To make money for food and renting rooms in a motel, Travis decided to become a hired killer. In the world of No More Heroes, it is believed that the killer is not only normal, but also commendable: volunteers join the United Assassins Association, which is engaged in the regulation of the market for the relevant services, provides everyone with work and even leads a hit parade of the best workers of the arbitrary front. At the beginning of the first part, Travis was the eleventh on this list, and he had to kill ten people to become a star of charts.

No More Heroes is filled with a huge amount of absurd jokes that SUDA51 loves so much. To save the game, the hero had to go, excuse me, to the toilet for a large. In the city, he traveled to a stupid type of reactive motorcycle. The bodies of the dead enemies immediately decomposed and turned into a pile of small coins. But the main oddities here are related to the design: the game itself is as if the usual action in Cel-scenting stylistics, but the menu, interface, part of sounds and special effects seemed to arrive from the 80s.

The action-component was also a nasal. In addition to own hands and legs, the only weapon of Travis was a light katana. She looked, of course, like a toy (and the hero bought it, by the way, at an online auction), but could easily cut people in half. At the same time, the main strokes were proposed to apply by pressing the buttons, and numerous finishing off – making tricky passes in the air: when the enemy’s condition was approaching the critical, arrows were highlighted on the screen indicating in which direction it was necessary to strike. Once – and fat mafiosi has no head. Two-some guard choked on his own blood.

There were also problems. No More Heroes was a game with the open world – the hero spent a significant part of the time, driving around the city on a motorcycle in the hope of getting the name of another victim from his list. For this, here's the absurdity, it was necessary to shake the palm tree and select the fallen coconuts for the strictly allotted time. It looked like a natural mockery: having interrupted half of the mafia bosses, villains and perverts of the city, Tachdown-san returned to the beach and again began to run from wood to wood. Designers were inexorable to the very end of the game: more coconuts, even more!

Things are easier

Almost all of the above is fair for No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. The combat system has not changed at all, and even the plot looks like. Trevis did not understand for three years, and when he decided, as they say, to return to a big business, he found that competitors had been dilapidated over the past time and he would have to start climbing to the top of the hit parade from the very beginning, but not from the eleventh line, but from Fifty of the first. This, of course, does not mean that there are fifty levels: several times the touchdown will brazenly jumping through a dozen positions.

So the news is mostly good: no more Heroes is still a wild eight -bit circus. But to the second part, you suddenly begin to understand why the court generally needed all this retro -stic. Choosing a primitive visual style and the same elementary gameplay for his game, he tries to remind what games were originally: simple, but funny. There is neither nonlinearity, nor setting, nothing at all – Travis runs along the corridors and kills people.

As Quentin Tarantino, in a “criminal reading”, once returned us to the rough and scandalous aesthetics of some kind of booth, cabbage (at the dawn of cinema, if you think, the films were just like that), so Suda51 offers the players to mentally return at a time when the opportunity simply to manage a man who waved a sword, in itself was considered a completely cheerful pastime. Even the plot goal is to overtake everyone in the list of professional killers – one big allusion to the time of slot machines: to seize the whole trifle in order to enter your name in the rating table.

Of course, Amigo Wins sister sites we did not impudently sell us the same game, no matter how good it was: the key misses of the original, the developers still tried to fix it. In particular, they threw out traction trips on a motorcycle: it is allowed to move instantly to the key points of the city with a special map.

The issue of collecting coconuts was gracefully resolved. Now all additional tasks are presented in the form of arcades, supposedly once created for Dandy-there is, for example, boxing, hunting for beetles and a classic “plumbler”. Moreover, it is not necessary to perform them at all: if you like, plot missions can pass one after another, without breaks.

Bosses became more interesting, although in the first part of charisma they plunged almost all Japanese games for the belt (where the antagonists, recall, traditionally pay increased attention). In the second part, there is, for example, a Negro Sustainer, throwing his prostitutes in Travis; A football player who sits in a giant robot; The brain of one of the mercenaries killed in the first part and a billionaire with exorbitant passion for pistols. It is only a pity that the scheme of the fight against them is always the same – the methodical seizing of the same katana.

In general, no more Heroes 2 is bored before I would like. The reason is everything in the same primitive gamemerane: you are running around the narrow level for ten minutes, kill the guards and selects bonuses from chests, and at the end – fight with the boss. All this could still be endured (in the end, the game was deliberately conceived by this), but for some reason the authors tried to diversify the game with levels for the shinoba, a lively girl and a passionate fan of Travis, who performs some dirty work for him. Shinobu is trying to mow under the ninja, and at such moments Desperate Struggle almost turns into a platformer, although the camera and control scheme, to put it mildly, are imprisoned for other purposes.

* * *

No More Heroes 2 is not much different from the first part, but this is still an extraordinary, bright action with a talented scenario and Otaku with Katana in the title role. In the end, this is the most honest video game on the planet, which unobtrusively reminds us that games are just games.

Who is Suda and why he is 51

The real name Suda51 is the goichi of the court, it was born on January 2, 1968. The pseudonym Suda51 is explained very simply: Suda is a name, and 51 is Goichi, written by numbers: in Japanese, Go means “five”, and ichi-“one”.

In the game industry of the court since 1993: then he led the development Super Fire Pro Wrestling 3 Final Bout (a year later – and a special edition), a rastling simulator. In Japan, he gained real fame thanks to Twilight Syndrome: Search (PS One), an adventure game, which, as well as her sequel, did not get out of her native country. Another Adventure is purely for domestic consumption – Flower, Sun, and Rain , This time – for PS2 and DS.

The first game SUDA51, released around the world, was Killer7 , And it rushed: Samurai Champloo: Sidetracked (action, PS2, 2006), Contact (role -playing game, ds, 2006), first No More Heroes and a few more purely Japanese releases, including the fourth part of the famous Fatal Frame.

Now Goichi is the head of the studio GRASSHOPPER ManUFACTure , where, among other things, works on some unnamed horror for EA.

Killer7

No More Heroes – not the first game of goichi courts about hired killers

Shooter Killer7 (2005) is the most famous game SUDA51. It was here that Goichi first touched his favorite topic of hired murders and hired killers. And if no more Heroes still works on more or less traditional and understandable principles, then Killer7 can easily scare away with its glaring wildness, although this game is largely outstanding.

Killer7 takes place in an alternative to the present, where the political situation is slightly different from the real. The Nationalist Party of Japan decided to capture the whole world, and the US government finds out that party leaders are under pressure from the powerful Heaven Smile terrorist organization. To eliminate key persons of the conspiracy, they turn to professionals.

Formally, the main character Killer7 is a man named Garman Smith, an elderly killer chained to a wheelchair. He is endowed with the ability to fall into an astral dream, in which he can call himself to help the souls of the seven people killed by him – it is for them that they need to play.

The extraordinary game is extraordinary in everything, and the action in Killer7 is also peculiar, starting that demons act as enemies (and the above terrorists were not quite from this world), and ending with the fact that the blood of defeated enemies should be collected here. In addition, the vessels filled the Killer7 with a bunch of allusions and references, thin and not very hints and traditionally masterfully worked with the script and cat-scenes, so the game cannot but admire the game. Killer7 came out on PS2 and GameCube, which means that if you want to get acquainted with her now, starting it at least on WII will not be difficult.
